Commando FAQ

How Did Your Training Program Get Started?

Answer:
Back in 2002, after I got out of the military and was finished with competitive bodybuilding I knew I wanted to keep keep in shape.

The thing was… I didn’t want to do complicated step classes, hours on a treadmill or something bizarre that just came out of the fitness industry money-mill.

So I started my own training group. There were 3 people to start. They were my personal training clients that I was keeping accountable to get their cardio done.

Then more people showed up. Then one day someone said “This is an awesome boot camp!” Being ex-military, I was like “THIS is NOT boot camp“. Boot camp was WAY different and WAY harder then this… but people kept calling it that.

Commando Cardio Started Getting Tagged With The Word “Boot Camp”

At first I rode the train. Everyone and their dog was talking about how cool this new thing called boot camps were. So I thought, “great, I’ll call it a fitness boot camp too”.

BUT THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED…

Boot Camps in Calgary popped up EVERY WHERE because trainers were coming out of the wood work, some good, some not and then throwing up their boot camps in Calgary on Daily Deal sites like Groupon, Living Social, AtCost, Yipit & GoodNews. AND THE QUALITY OF SERVICE WAS BRUTAL! So many people were being crammed into a single class and since most of the boot camps were outdoors, they were leaving their people high and dry in the winter.

They were selling 1000 deals for a boot camp in Calgary with 1 instructor and 3 classes a week. Do the math on that and 20 classes for $20 is a not such a sweet deal when it comes to YOUR results.

Question: Will you yell at me?

Answer: The music is loud and so you can hear me, I will yell. I will not demean you, insult you or do anything that will not push you to be more physically fit. You will NOT call me SIR I was actually in the army and never became an officer, so I don’t have that title. You can call me Ray.

Question: Will you push me through injuries or hurt me?

Answer: As “hardcore” as pushing through injuries made sound, it’s just stupid. We work around injuries and train as hard as we are physically capable of. Our goal is to become Faster, Leaner and Stronger… not injured, immobile and overtrained.

Q: I have a torn ACL, rotator cuff, ect… can we work around that?
A: No. We can’t. You must be medically sound to start training here. If you have an injury like that, then you should check out our personal training department.

I have arthritis, and have not kept up with physical activity because of it. I want to get back into shape, but am curious if the workouts of bootcamp can be adjusted to accommodate joint pain/discomfort?

    • Ray says:

A lot of the times, yes, movements can be slightly tweaked to adjust for certain issues but if it’s something like knee pain or shoulder pain that keeps you from running, squatting or doing pushups then you would have to look at doing personal training where we could spend more individual time with you and your concerns.
